Can I Set Up an AI Receptionist That Lets Me Answer Calls First?

I'm working on a setup for my business where I'd like to have an AI receptionist, but I want to make sure I still have the option to answer calls first. My plan is to forward my business number to a Twilio number, where the AI will handle messages. I'm new to this kind of phone service arrangement, so I'm hoping to understand how to make it so that my phone rings normally first, allowing me to greet my customers personally before the AI takes over if I miss the call. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The typical approach is to set it up so that your main business number rings on your phone first. If you don’t answer after a few rings, it can then forward to your Twilio number where the AI receptionist picks up. This way, you don’t lose potential leads from missed calls. Twilio has options like simple call forwarding or you can create a TwiML flow for more control. Also, keep in mind how potential customers are finding your business—many are using Google Maps and AI search these days, so optimizing your Google Business Profile can help you stand out.

Thanks for the insight! I'm taking care of his Google Business Profile and planning some physical marketing too, so we'll definitely be focusing on boosting visibility there.
