Can I Study Animation and Programming at the Same Time?

I'm turning 18 in November and I'll be starting my animation studies at a polytechnic in Malaysia soon. I'm wondering if I can also learn programming on the side to create my own game. Is it feasible for me to pursue programming while studying animation?

Additionally, I'm interested in continuing my education with a Computer Science degree after my diploma, but I'm not sure which specialization to choose. I've heard that Multimedia Computer Science might be my only option, but I'd love to focus on Software Engineering or Cybersecurity. If I go that route, can I still secure a stable job in the CS field, even if I'm more interested in art and animation? I did really well in my Computer Science class in secondary school! Can anyone share their insights?

Absolutely, it's possible! If you're willing to put in the effort, you can definitely balance both animation and programming. Just start learning programming on your own. You'll find it overlaps a lot with what you'll be doing in animation, especially with data structures and algorithms. There are plenty of free resources out there. Check out CS50 from Harvard — it's a great place to get inspired and learn. Also, keep an eye out in your local libraries for books on computer science and programming!
