I'm currently in my second year studying cybersecurity, but I'm not really interested in pursuing a career in that field. I find myself more drawn to backend development and have been teaching myself Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL. I'm thinking about transitioning to fullstack development. Is it feasible to make this switch and find a job in software engineering with a degree in cybersecurity? Any experiences or advice from those who've been in a similar situation would be greatly appreciated!

For sure! If you pick up backend tech skills and create a few projects to showcase, you can absolutely get into software engineering even with a cybersecurity degree. Some companies can be strict, but startups often value skills over degrees. I actually started with electronics engineering and ended up as a backend developer, so it's totally doable!
You can definitely do it! I also transitioned from a different field; I have a business degree and now work in software development. One of my colleagues was a music major! As long as you understand the relevant concepts and can communicate your skills clearly in interviews, you should be fine. Self-study is crucial—make sure to keep learning!
Absolutely! While a computer science degree can be beneficial, it's not the only path to becoming a software engineer. If you’re genuinely interested in software development, switching to a major that focuses on it could help. Just make sure you build a strong portfolio to showcase your skills in backend development. Networking can help a lot too!
Totally agree! Having a portfolio can make a huge difference, especially if you can demonstrate your coding skills through personal projects.
