I'm trying to figure out how to use my old ZTE F670L router with a 500GB SATA hard drive for streaming movies on my Android phone. The router has a USB port, and I want to connect the HDD to it so I can access the files wirelessly from anywhere in my small house. My brother has done this setup before, but he's not around to help me now, so I'm looking for guidance on whether this is possible and how to set it up. Basically, I want to connect the HDD to the router, have the router provide a Wi-Fi signal, and then access the HDD from my phone to play movies. Can anyone assist me?

To start, you just need to plug your HDD into the USB port of the router. Most routers support media sharing over the network, allowing devices to access files. You might check your router's settings by logging into the admin panel to enable this feature. Look for options related to media sharing or a similar setup. Just so you know, while your router might work with USB storage, performance might vary, especially with HDD speeds because of the USB limitations. If you don't have a USB media attached yet, most routers should work well with even a basic USB stick for media sharing.
What you want to achieve is actually very similar to a NAS (Network Attached Storage) setup. I suggest checking out some tutorials on platforms like YouTube that show step-by-step processes for using a router as a media server. Just make sure they specifically use a router, not a full server. I saw a similar setup in a video that you might find helpful!
That's cool, thanks for sharing the link! I found one explaining the setup properly. Just need to dig in now.

I get what you mean about SSD prices; they're skyrocketing right now! I was planning to buy one too but it's a bit much.
