I recently got an old company laptop for a low price, and I'm curious if changing the SSD will allow me to bypass any restrictions on it. It seems like it might be managed by the company remotely, but I'm not entirely sure what's going on. I want to use it without worrying about my old employer potentially tracking me down. Any advice on how to handle this?

When you say 'unlocked,' are you talking about full access or just removing restrictions?
To get a better idea, we need more details about your laptop. What make and model is it? Are there signs it's under remote management, like specific screens or messages at startup? This info will help others provide you with tailored advice on what to do next.
I’m also new to this kind of tech stuff, so I feel you on needing help!
Unfortunately, just changing the SSD won't do the trick. If the laptop has a TPM chip and is managed through tools like Intune, it will lock back down as soon as it connects to the internet. The best suggestion is to try to get your money back if you suspect it's stolen.
If the company has it set up right, you could be in for a tough time getting it to work. Sounds like a tricky situation!
If the laptop came from a legitimate purchase from that company, you need them to unlock it for you. But if it wasn't supposed to be sold and you ended up with it by chance, there's really not much we can do to help you here.
Yeah, my uncle gave me a company laptop too, and it went straight to their welcome screen when I started it up.
