I'm putting together a new PC with an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X and a GIGABYTE X870E AORUS Elite WIFI7 motherboard. While shopping for parts, I accidentally bought a 256GB RAM kit instead of the 192GB maximum that the CPU supports. Given that the motherboard can handle 256GB, I'm curious about what will happen if I install the larger RAM. Will the CPU just limit it to 192GB, or could I run into issues?

Be careful trying to use more RAM than your CPU supports. There's a high chance your system may not boot at all. It’s probably safer to stick with the RAM that matches the CPU requirements. Just saying, 192GB is still a massive amount!
That's a lot of RAM! Are you sure you really need that much? If you're just gaming or doing light editing, you might be overestimating your needs. But if you actually require it for multiple virtual machines and containers, then we can talk about it.
Yeah, I run a bunch of VMs and containers too! Trust me, it adds up quick. I used to be on 128GB and it wasn't enough for my workload.
