Can I Use a GTX 1070 with a 5070 in My New Computer?

Hey everyone! I just built a new computer featuring a GTX 5070, but I have an old GTX 1070 lying around. There's definitely enough space to fit the 1070 in the new rig, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea. I've heard that components like RAM should ideally match in size and brand, so is it the same deal with graphics cards? Can I just throw the old one in alongside the new one, or should I stick to using just the GTX 5070? Is it even worth the effort? Thanks in advance!

If there's space for both cards, it won't hurt to try using the 1070 with the 5070. Just remember to connect your monitor to the 5070 for optimal performance. But honestly, don't expect much of a performance boost; sometimes it just looks cooler to have both in there!

Thanks! I do like that the 5070 has 4 monitor slots. I assume I can't use all of them with both cards, right?

Got it! I might just run into issues trying to balance them out. Only considering that if I go with more monitors.

You technically could use both cards if your power supply supports it. But honestly, what's the point? Are you planning on running 6-8 monitors? I have a GTX 1060 that can handle multiple outputs, but I only really need two displays—one for gaming and another for general use. It's just not necessary unless you have a specific use case.

Good point! I was thinking of upgrading my power supply. I'm not going for 8 monitors, but having four has been really nice. I can see how having two could potentially feel restricting.

You can't really run both the 1070 and 5070 simultaneously, unless you're using SLI or NVLink, which they don't support. Honestly, just use the 5070; it's faster and will keep things simpler.

Thanks for the clarification! That makes it easier.

I wouldn't bother adding the 1070. If you have to ask, it probably means you won't benefit from it. Stick with the 5070—it should handle everything just fine.

I appreciate your input! Seems like a solid plan.

There's also a software called Lossless Scaling that can use two GPUs together for better game performance, if you're into that kind of setup.
