Can I use a virtual machine to play Fortnite on Linux?

Hey everyone! I'm diving into Linux (specifically Cinnamon Mint because it's beginner-friendly) on this old laptop I picked up at a garage sale, and I'm actually enjoying it. I'm thinking about switching over Linux to my main gaming PC, but I'm held back by the Fortnite situation. I've heard that Fortnite doesn't work on Linux due to its anti-cheat system. So here's my question: Is it possible to set up a virtual machine to run Windows inside Linux just to play Fortnite and other Windows-only games? Is this a good idea? Thanks for your insights!

While you can set up a VM, the anti-cheat systems, including Fortnite's, often detect virtual machines and block them. Some users have even reported getting banned just for trying to play through a VM, so I wouldn’t recommend it. You’d be better off dual-booting with Windows or running Linux in a VM while using Windows for gaming.

Yes, you can create a virtual machine using QEMU or similar software, but be aware that there might be a performance hit since you're essentially running one computer inside another.

It’s possible to get reasonable performance in a VM, but the main issue is that most anti-cheat software won't let you run games in a VM at all. So really, the chances of Fortnite working are slim.
