I'm trying to figure out if I can use the 8-pin ATX 12V connector from my power supply, which is labeled "CPU", for a graphics card I'm getting from a friend. My power supply is semi-modular and has two 6+2 connectors meant for GPUs. Can I connect it to a triple 8-pin connector for the GPU?

No way! The pinouts are completely different on these connectors, so you won't be able to fit it properly. Even if you somehow force it to connect, you risk damaging both your GPU and the power supply. What model of PSU do you have? Some of them come with daisy-chained connectors to power more demanding graphics cards.
If you're worried, just pick up another 8-pin PCIe cable to be safe.
Using that 8-pin ATX connector for a GPU can be disastrous. Seriously, it could catch fire if you tried it! Stick with the intended GPU connectors to keep your system safe.
I would definitely not try to force it in—it's just not safe!
