Can I Use an IPS and OLED Monitor Together Without Problems?

I'm setting up a new computer for my son, which will be powered by a 5080 graphics card. Since I've never configured dual monitors before, I'm curious if there will be any issues running a 32" IPS monitor alongside a 27" OLED display. My plan is for him to play games on the 4K OLED while using the IPS for web browsing and homework. Should I connect both monitors directly to the GPU using HDMI, or is there a better way? Any advice would be appreciated!

Either connection method should do the trick. Since you're using both monitors frequently, you might want to consider getting monitor arms that can help position them better. Sitting with your head turned for long periods isn't comfortable, and it can affect your posture.

You shouldn't encounter any problems at all! I've got my OLED connected through DisplayPort on the GPU to get the best refresh rate. The IPS monitor is on HDMI since I don’t need as high a frame rate for it. Generally, I just run it at 120 Hz, which is perfectly fine for other tasks.

Perfect! Thanks for the help!

The main issue will be the different sizes of the monitors, which could lead to scaling problems for desktop windows and text. This might make moving the mouse between them a bit tricky. You could try using a tool like littleBigMouse to adjust for that. Otherwise, connecting both to the GPU with DisplayPort instead of HDMI should work just fine.

No issues here! Just make sure both monitors are hooked up to the GPU and not the motherboard. Also, check their specifications—some models perform best with DisplayPort to hit the max refresh rate.

Thanks man! I'll keep that in mind!

I have a similar setup with a 24" IPS and a 27" OLED. I use the OLED primarily for gaming and the IPS for browsing and watching YouTube. Just a heads up, the OLED can be pretty bright for regular browsing and might cause eye fatigue. You'll also notice the mouse movements can feel different between monitors due to their resolutions.

Thanks for sharing! Do you keep your OLED on standby when not in use? I'm worried about burn-in, but I want to extend the monitor's life as much as possible.
