Can I Use Coaxial Cable for Gaming Instead of Ethernet?

I'm trying to get a reliable internet connection in my new place where I share space with roommates. We already have a modem, but I can't drill holes in the walls, and unfortunately, I only have coaxial cables due to having an old Xfinity setup. I mainly play World of Warcraft, and my Wi-Fi connection is terrible, often dropping my speeds below 200 Mbps, even with boosters. I'm curious if I can convert the coaxial cable running from my room to the modem into an Ethernet connection using an adapter, so I can plug my PC directly into that. Can coax support gaming, and what adapters would I need?

Absolutely, this method is known as MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance). It tends to be a better option than Wi-Fi for gaming since it usually delivers a more stable connection. While I've heard it can introduce some latency, if you're using Xfinity, sometimes it might feel like anything is an improvement over laggy Wi-Fi!

Yeah, exactly! I've been in the same boat with Xfinity, and switching to MoCA has made a huge difference for me.

Yes, you'll want to look into MoCA 2.5 adapters. They allow you to use your existing coax cables to provide a wired connection, and you can connect multiple adapters if needed. This setup is great for gaming because it usually provides much better performance than Wi-Fi, even if there might be a tiny bit of added latency. Overall, it's definitely worth considering!
