I'm setting up a scan-to-email system for a local nonprofit, and they want to use Google's SMTP server while utilizing their company email domain. Is this something that's feasible?

Sure, just spin up a Google Workspace tenant and you should be good to go!

If their email domain is already hosted on Google, then it's totally possible. I set this up myself using a Raspberry Pi and a USB scanner.

Honestly, considering the complexity of these setups, you might want to hire a Managed Service Provider (MSP). They can help you avoid any security risks or misconfigurations that could happen otherwise. There are MSPs that offer discounts for nonprofits.

I tried that approach, but was told it wouldn't work out. I need to get them off using just camera phones for scanning!

You might want to check out Google’s support for setting this up: [Google Support Article](https://support.google.com/a/answer/176600).

I already tried the steps in that article before posting, but it didn’t work for me. Still, I appreciate the suggestion!

SMTP2GO is a fantastic option I’ve found for these setups. It works really well for sending emails through various platforms. If you ever need a reliable external SMTP service, I’d definitely recommend it.

You’ll need to create an application password for your SMTP settings, rather than using the normal Google account password. However, based on my experiences, going with SMTP2GO might be a better long-term solution.

If the nonprofit is using Google for Nonprofits, they get free access for up to 2000 Google Workspace users. It has some limitations compared to the Enterprise versions, but it should be enough for most purposes. With that setup, you can use Google’s SMTP relay with an authenticated user and password.

Do they need any special configuration for the account, or can I just set up a new Gmail box?
