I'm planning to build a PC in the next 8-9 months, but I'm worried about rising RAM prices. Currently, I have a laptop with 64 GB of DDR5 SODIMM RAM with high MHz (not sure of the exact speed right now because I'm at work). I mainly use it for 3D modeling and high-quality 2D renders, but my processor is failing, and I need a desktop eventually. I really need at least 32 GB of DDR5 RAM (ideally DDR6), but it's quite expensive. I know using the laptop RAM would force the system to operate at lower frequencies, but I'm wondering if that could harm the PC in any way? My budget for the build is around 10,000 PLN (approximately 2,500 EUR).

By the way, you mentioned your processor is breaking down. Can you elaborate? If it's overheating, try cleaning the fans and heatsinks, and maybe go for a good thermal paste like PTM7950. It's highly effective without the risks associated with liquid metal.
You can definitely find adapters to convert SODIMM to DIMM DDR5. Just a quick search online gives you plenty of options. While using laptop RAM won't harm your PC, it might affect performance due to lower speed and higher latency compared to standard desktop RAM.
I knew about adapters, but I wasn't sure if using them was safe for the motherboard. Thanks for clarifying!
No, using laptop RAM isn't the best choice for a desktop. While adapters exist, they can introduce potential compatibility issues that you might not want to deal with.
In general, using laptop RAM in a desktop setup is usually okay, but be cautious since adapters can sometimes cause unexpected issues.

Thanks a ton! It's not actually overheating; it's just getting older and not performing well. I bought it a couple of years ago, and it's struggling now. I've already cleaned everything and tried reinstalling the OS, but it seems I just need a new build.
