Can I Use My Laptop as a Monitor or Build a PC in a Laptop Shell?

Hey folks! I'm really new to this whole tech scene, so I could use some guidance. My situation is a bit unique—I'm disabled and spend most of my time in bed due to conditions that make sitting in a chair uncomfortable. Because of this, I primarily use my laptop, which limits the games I can play and the kinds of development work I can do. I'm wondering if it's possible to connect my laptop to a desktop PC so that I can use it as a monitor and keyboard, or if that's not feasible, maybe explore building a PC that could work similarly to a laptop in the future.

I used to have a bed desk, but my current bed frame doesn't allow for that. I've also tried connecting my PC to a TV, but that setup just isn't cutting it either. I need something that lets me move around comfortably in bed without causing pain. If using my laptop as a monitor isn't possible, I'm open to creative alternatives that suit my needs. Looking forward to your suggestions and thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, using a laptop as a monitor isn’t very practical. If you're set on using your current setup, I’d suggest trying a monitor arm that can attach to your bed. This way, you can adjust the positioning easily and keep your laptop as your main device. If you've tried this and it didn’t work, let me know and we can brainstorm more!

If mounting a monitor on an adjustable arm sounds too tricky, you might want to look into getting an external GPU for your laptop. It could really boost your performance without needing to change your whole setup. Just a thought!

Definitely a solid idea! Just make sure it's compatible with your laptop before you dive in.

If you want to stay within your laptop’s capabilities but still get into gaming, consider using Steam Remote Play. It allows you to stream games from your PC to your laptop, which can help with performance. For anything else, programs like Remote Desktop could also come in handy!

I wouldn’t worry about performance too much with streaming unless you're into heavy 3D stuff. It should work well for most tasks!

A wireless keyboard and mouse could really help you out! They’re easy to use from bed. Plus, if you get a sturdy VESA mount, you could attach it to your bed frame or even a wall to have some flexibility with the monitor placement. That could make gaming and coding a lot easier without the hassle of a desk.
