I'm wondering if I can use pantyhose as a makeshift dust filter for my fan since I don't have any dust filters available. Will this work, or is it a bad idea?

I'd be cautious—pantyhose might rip under strain and could get noisy. It's worth checking if they have any weird static properties before trying. That said, dust filters are pretty inexpensive, so it might just be easier to buy one instead.
Yeah, it can work but it might be a hassle. You can get pre-made dust filters that screw onto fans, or if you're feeling crafty, making your own with actual fan filter material might be even cheaper than pantyhose!
Sure, you could use pantyhose if the weave isn't too tight. Just be aware that keeping it in place might be tricky, so good luck with that!
I imagine the pantyhose would start laddering the moment you screw it in. If I were you, I'd consider 3D printing a holder that uses magnets to secure it. If you don’t have a printer, local print services could help.

Honestly, just buying a dust filter is probably the best bet. It's likely cheaper and way less hassle than all the other options.
