I found a wire stuffed inside a phone jack next to an outlet, and I'm wondering if it can be used for Ethernet. The outlet was unplugged, and the wire ends are open. Could this wire work for gaming purposes as an Ethernet connection? If so, how should I connect the wires to the outlet? Here's a link to an image for reference: https://imgur.com/a/NgzQPTN

Yes, that wire is pretty much standard for Ethernet. To make it work, you'll need to terminate the ends with RJ45 connectors. That way, you can plug it right into your devices. Just make sure you do it right to get good connectivity!
If the wire is labeled CAT5, CAT5e, or CAT6, you're in luck! Those types are all good for Ethernet. Look for 8 strands with 4 pairs -- typically, they have a color and a white stripe. If it's CAT5, you can run it for up to 100 meters with speeds around 100MB, or 1GB for CAT5e. CAT6 can give you a massive boost in speed!
I can't see the full label since there's some paint covering it. But you're right about the 4 pairs. Just make sure to check that carefully!
Gotcha! What about the wall plate I found behind it? It seemed disconnected. How do I connect that to the wire?
