I'm looking to upgrade my memory and want to know if I can combine two different kits. Here are my specs:
- Intel Core i7-14700KF 3.4 GHz
- MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX LGA1700
- G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-7200 CL34
- Kingston Fury Renegade 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME SSD
- Gigabyte EAGLE OC GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB
- be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000 W 80+ Titanium Certified Fully Modular ATX
I currently have the G.Skill kit and I want to double the memory. I thought adding another identical kit would be straightforward, but I've read that mixing different kits may cause issues. Can anyone with real experience offer me some insight? Thanks in advance!

You won't know until you actually try it with your board. They might run fine together at XMP speeds, but if not, you’ll likely need to lower the settings. It's more of a gamble with DDR5 than with older DDR models. If you decide to buy a new kit, consider getting one that's guaranteed to work with your setup and check the return policy just in case.
Trust me, mixing memory kits is generally not a great idea, especially with DDR5. Even if the kits are from the same brand, they might not be compatible at their rated speeds. It's better to stick with one kit that’s matched for fewer headaches down the line.
Got it! Appreciate the reassurance.
Yeah, GPT is sometimes spot on with the tech stuff.

Thanks for the advice! Do you think upgrading to a slower 64 GB kit would benefit gaming?
