Hey everyone, I'm not a server expert, just a network engineering tech trying to help out. I need some clarity regarding the Dell PowerEdge 740XD and Windows Server 2025. I've found conflicting info from Dell: some places say the server supports Windows Server 2025, but their driver search tool only goes up to 2022. It's confusing!
I've got this server from a customer to set up as a new NVR, but the built-in video card is an 8-bit SVGA, which is way too limited for my needs. I've tried installing four different PCIe video cards, and none are being recognized during boot. I even bought a Dell Quadro 5000 video card specifically, but it doesn't show up either.
So here I am, looking for advice on why the server or OS isn't recognizing any video cards. Any help would be appreciated!

Regarding the OS support concerns, it’s possible that Dell’s support page is correct, but the 740XD may not have been tested for Server 2025 because it's older. Typically, there are specific hardware combinations needed to make things work. Just to clarify, what’s your current PSU setup? It’s important to know if you have enough power going to your components.
First off, check how you're powering that Quadro 5000. It needs to draw power directly from the PCIe slot, so if you're relying on external connectors, it might not work. Also, dive into the BIOS settings and see if there's any configuration for PCIe slots that might be disabling them. Generally speaking, it's not strictly necessary to use Dell cards; I've used non-Dell ones without issues before.
Just remember, a server is basically a beefy workstation, so these hiccups likely come from power, settings, or a faulty port.
