Can I Use Winget to Install an App That’s No Longer in the Microsoft Store?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out how to transfer an app from my old laptop to my new one. I had it installed a few months ago, but now it's gone from the Microsoft Store, and I want to know if I can still get it back using Winget. I've come across some instructions that suggest using the app's ID from the URL in a PowerShell command with Winget, but I'm not sure if it's safe or if it'll even work since I'm not that tech-savvy. My new laptop runs Windows 11 and the old one runs Windows 10. I'm worried about messing something up during the process. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Winget is included by default on Windows 10 and 11, so you should be good there! Installing it won't mess anything up. That said, whether you can actually get that specific app back using Winget is hit-or-miss. It's worth a shot, though!

Thanks for the reassurance! I was just worried about messing up my new laptop. I guess I’ll give it a try!

Just a heads up, cloning software like Clonezilla is designed to copy your entire system. If you're just after one app, probably not the best solution. But there's really no harm in experimenting with Winget; just be careful and back up any important data first!

Good point! I appreciate the tip; I’ll make sure to back up my data before trying anything!

You could try using Uniget UI to search since it pulls from multiple sources, including Winget. It might track down your app for you!

I tried that, but no luck finding "interval timer". Might just be out of reach now. Thanks anyway!
