I have about 1TB of company documents that are a total jumble. They include various file types and many aren't even in English! Right now, all of these documents are just sitting on an internal network drive. The plan is to move everything to our company SharePoint without changing or renaming the files. Eventually, I want to be able to ask questions in natural language, like "when does permit X expire?" and receive answers straight from the relevant documents without needing to sort through them first. I've heard that M365 Copilot indexes file content, not just filenames, so I'm wondering if it can really pull specific information from such a chaotic collection of files. Am I understanding that right?

One major concern with migrating data like this is potential exposure of sensitive information. For example, if there’s HR or salary data, Copilot might pull that up in search results. You need to manage data access carefully. Plus, if you don't provide enough context in your prompts, Copilot may struggle to find what you need.
It can help to some extent, especially if you've got the right license. But keep in mind, even the Department of Defense had serious issues and opted not to use Copilot in some scenarios.
Maybe? But to be honest, my experience with Copilot hasn’t been the best. I wouldn’t rely on it too heavily for that kind of task.

Yeah, most people probably have access to these documents already. Our files are often outdated and not very useful.
