Hey everyone! I'm considering making the switch from Windows to Linux, particularly Ubuntu. My laptop is a 2012 model, and I'm wondering if it can comfortably run Ubuntu. Windows has been eating up my RAM, and I think I could get a lot more out of my system. Here are my specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-2450M
- RAM: 8GB
- Storage: 120GB SSD + 500GB HDD
If Ubuntu isn't a good fit, I'd also love any other distro suggestions! I'm looking for something that's easy to set up and feels user-friendly. Thanks for your help!

Honestly, your machine is powerful enough to run Ubuntu, and you might even be able to run lighter distros if you're up for it. I mean, I've seen Linux run on some really outdated hardware! Just be sensible about multitasking.
Based on your specs, Ubuntu will run just fine! Your CPU and RAM are more than adequate for smooth performance. Just remember, try installing Ubuntu on the SSD for the best speed. Multi-tasking with too many open applications might slow things down a bit, so keep that in mind.
Your laptop can handle any Linux distro way better than Windows! It’s definitely time for an upgrade - you’ll notice the difference right away.
You should be all set with Ubuntu Cinnamon! It’s a smooth transition from Windows and runs really well on older hardware. I actually prefer Mint Cinnamon myself, as it's based on Ubuntu and has a very familiar interface, making it super user-friendly.
