Can My Gaming Peripherals Spread Malware to My Work Laptop?

Hey folks! I'm gearing up to dive into a nostalgic game called Origin Online on my laptop, but it comes with some pretty aggressive anti-cheat software that scans for any cheating tools. I'm using the same mouse, keyboard, and monitor that I also use with my work laptop, and I'm genuinely curious if these peripherals could potentially transfer any malware or intrusive software to my work setup. Just to clarify, my devices are quite basic—no smart features, Bluetooth, or multitasking connections. Both laptops will be on different networks, and there's nothing else on my gaming laptop except a fresh install of Windows 11 with updates. Am I worrying too much, or is there a real risk here? I'd appreciate any insights!

Honestly, don’t sweat it. Just enjoy your game! Your setup sounds pretty safe, especially since the machines are on different networks.

In theory, yes, there are some cool concepts where a keyboard could be programmed to perform malicious actions like injecting commands or logging keystrokes while appearing normal. However, practically executing such an attack through a game is very unlikely. So, you're probably safe!

That makes sense! Sounds like I can just indulge in my nostalgia without stressing too much.

While it's technically possible for peripherals to carry malware, it's usually very sophisticated and would be more targeted towards high-value individuals. If you want extra peace of mind, using a virtual machine for gaming could be a smart move!

Yeah, I was considering that! Thanks for the suggestion.
