Can my graphics card handle 240Hz on my new 32″ 4K QD-OLED monitor?

Hey everyone! I just scored a fantastic Black Friday deal on a 32" 4K QD-OLED monitor that supports 240Hz. However, I'm currently using an AMD RX 6950 XT, which unfortunately doesn't support DisplayPort 2.1. This means I'm capped at 120Hz when running at 4K resolution. I tried running the monitor at 1440p to utilize the 240Hz refresh rate, but the image quality is quite blurry on such a large screen, which is disappointing.

Right now, I'm able to get a stable 120fps in the games I play thanks to some upscaling. I'm on an AM4 motherboard with a 5800X3D processor and prefer not to upgrade to a new platform or buy DDR5 RAM for now, as I believe my setup is adequate. I've considered upgrading my GPU for better monitor compatibility, but based on benchmarks I've seen, options like the 5070 TI or 9070 XT don't seem to provide a significant performance boost over my current card. Are the 5080 and 5090 the only options for a real upgrade?

Also, to fully capitalize on the 240Hz, I'd need to upscale. I wanted to know if DLSS is significantly better than AMD's equivalent? I've noticed issues like slow textures and artifacts in some games when using upscaling, but The Finals runs smoothly. Would DLSS truly enhance my gaming experience enough to be worth it? Thanks for your insights!

Are you using HDMI? You should be using DisplayPort instead, even if you don't have DP 2.1. A lot of 4K 240Hz monitors utilize DSC compression, so if your monitor has a DP 1.4 connector, that should still work fine. For example, my Samsung G8 4K 240Hz monitor only has DP 1.4 and it runs at 240Hz without any issues.

My 240Hz G7 actually comes with HDMI, which is kind of funny.

I don’t use HDMI at all; I’ve got DisplayPort on all my monitors. But whenever I try to enable 240Hz in Windows, it lowers my resolution to 1440p. I can only get 120Hz without dropping to that lower resolution.

Could you specify which 4K monitor you’re using? Sometimes, monitors can be rebranded from less reliable sources that might use lower quality parts and have software issues with performance.

It's the Samsung G8 32" 240Hz, specifically model S32FG812SU.
