Hey everyone! I'm about to upgrade my motherboard and RAM, but I'm a bit uncertain about my CPU. I currently have an Intel i5 13400F and I'm planning to get 32GB of 6400MHz RAM along with the Asus Prime B860-PLUS WIFI motherboard. Will my CPU support the 6400MHz RAM with this setup? Or do I need to invest in a new CPU to achieve that? Thanks in advance for your help!

Gotcha, that helps clarify! It sounds like you're working with a DDR4 motherboard now and it’s entry-level. Since you’re considering either going for a B760 motherboard or getting a new CPU, I'd say if you’re really fixed on getting that specific new RAM, upgrading the CPU might be the smarter move. Don't sweat it too much – once you decide on the right parts, it’ll all come together!

It looks like your CPU is installed in an LGA1700 socket, which means it won't fit in that B860 motherboard. You'll need either a B660 or B760 motherboard for it to work. Just make sure that the motherboard supports DDR5 and not DDR4. Also, Intel's 12th and 13th gen CPUs, like your i5 13400F, can handle both RAM types, so you're on the right track!

When it comes to using DDR5, while your RAM's rated speed of 6400MHz may not always be guaranteed to work at that speed, there's typically nothing preventing your i5 13400F from running it just fine. But do you currently have a working motherboard with RAM? If so, that might be worth considering.
