Can QA Automation Experience Help Me Transition to DevOps?

Hey everyone! I'm currently a Java developer doing a QA automation internship, and I'm really interested in making the leap over to DevOps. I want to know if my experience with QA automation will actually benefit me in this transition, or if I'm just going off on a tangent. What specific skills should I focus on learning to help me make this jump? I could really use some clarity on prioritizing my learning path. Has anyone else been through this transition? Thanks a lot!

It really depends on your definition of transitioning to DevOps. I work on a DevOps team where we have members from various backgrounds, including a test engineer. They still do the key DevOps tasks but focus on end-to-end testing. If you're aiming for a standard DevOps role, I recommend prioritizing learning GitHub Actions, Terraform, and AWS, in that order.

Can you transition into this even if you're interested in containerization like Docker and Kubernetes?

Absolutely, learning to write test automation is a valuable skill that will come in handy as a DevOps professional. It helps you understand the testing process and builds a solid foundation for automating workflows in DevOps.
