Can We Enable Text Messaging in Microsoft Teams?

I'm looking for insights on whether Microsoft Teams can support text messaging to help improve our team's communication. Currently, we rely on a texting system that's pretty clunky, making it less appealing for staff to use. I've heard that if the texting feature is activated in the admin settings, Teams might allow for this. Is it possible to enable text messaging in Teams? It could help cut costs and streamline our communication, especially since everyone on the team already uses Teams.

Totally get the frustration! Microsoft Teams does have the capability to send messages, as it's primarily designed for chats and meetings. However, if you're specifically asking about sending SMS messages, that's a different ballgame. It’s available, but only in select regions and requires a specific Microsoft 365 subscription with the Teams Calling Plan. You might want to check out Microsoft's documentation for SMS capabilities. In most cases, if everyone is using Teams, just sticking to the app for chat is probably more cost-effective than going SMS, since they’re both in the same interface.

Yes, Teams can do SMS, but it’s only for those who have the right setup. If enabling texting can make communication easier for your team, it's worth discussing with your IT admin about getting the right plan. But keep in mind, if you're all within Teams already, converting to SMS might just complicate things more.
