Can you get a virus just by opening a website on iOS?

I accidentally clicked on a suspicious link and it made me really anxious about potentially having a virus. It tried to redirect me to the App Store, and there was a pop-up warning saying I needed to protect my computer. While I suspect that pop-up was just scareware, it still got me worried. I declined the redirect, closed the page immediately, and cleared my browsing history. I checked my downloads, and everything seems fine. I didn't see any unusual activity in my app history either. My phone seems to be working well, but I've noticed a slight increase in battery drain, although I suspect that could just be my anxiety. I'm just looking for reassurance – could I have caught a virus?

You're totally fine! It's super unlikely to get a virus just by visiting a website on iOS. Apple has strong security measures in place, and unless you download something from outside the App Store, your device is safe. Those pop-ups are usually just scare tactics meant to trick you into giving up personal info or downloading unwanted apps. Since your phone is operating normally and you haven't installed anything sketchy, you really don’t have anything to worry about. If the battery is draining a bit faster, it could just be normal fluctuations or maybe your anxious thoughts playing tricks on you. Just keep iOS updated and be cautious with suspicious links!

Exactly! And if you're ever unsure, you can reboot your phone or reset your Safari settings for extra peace of mind.

Honestly, a good idea is to scan it with free antivirus apps like Bitdefender, but keep in mind that most real antivirus tools don’t work effectively on iOS due to its design. Just stay alert!

That’s true! iOS isn’t as vulnerable, so you might not find those tools very effective.

Just think about it! If you had a legit virus, they wouldn’t inform you about it. Those pop-ups are often scams to get you to call a number or pay for fake antivirus services. Just ignore those worries.

It's very unlikely, though not impossible. If you're really concerned, you might want to check the URL with Virus Total to see if anything comes up. But honestly, you’re probably in the clear!
