Can You Send Images to a Landline Number?

I'm part of a small repair service, and customers usually reach out via our landline, email, or social media. Frequently, they need to send us photos of issues they're facing so we can determine what materials to use for repairs. Currently, if they call, they often have to email those pictures separately. Is there a way for customers to send images directly to our landline number—like they would with text attachments to a cell phone—and have those images forwarded to an email or a cell phone linked to the same number?

In short, not really. To get that kind of functionality would require a hefty investment in a virtual phone system, plus the ongoing costs might not be worth it.

At our workplace, we use Kenect, which enables us to send and receive texts from our work number including images. This setup might be a great fit for you.

For something like this to work, your phone provider would need to offer an SMS/MMS to email service. I don’t know of any that do, but it might be worth checking out. A VoIP line may suit your needs better since many providers allow customization options.

You could consider using fax technology. Customers would need to utilize an online fax service, and you'd need a fax machine as well. However, if you’d rather not go old school, think about switching to a VoIP service like Ring Central or Zoom Phone that offers SMS capabilities. Unfortunately, regular SMS can only handle text, not images, so it might just complicate things for your customers. The simplest solution might be to have them send images via email. If you want to upgrade further, developing a custom app for uploads would be an option, but that's quite an investment.

You can switch your landline to a service like Google Voice. Just keep in mind, it would turn your landline into more of a regular phone number than an actual landline.
