I recently took an old 4TB external hard drive and converted it into an internal one by removing the adapter. After I turned off my PC, I connected it to the SATA power cable, which shares a line with my SSD boot drive, and then plugged it into the motherboard. However, when I tried to boot up, I noticed a small burning smell, and now my original SSD isn't recognized either, only my mv2e drive. I'm wondering what could have gone wrong and how I can fix this issue.

If the SSD still doesn't show up after removing the HDD, it might be a bigger issue with your setup. Try using a different SATA power cable and plug it into another port on your PSU to rule out a power issue. You could also check the connections on both the SSD and the motherboard—sometimes it's as simple as a loose cable.
That burning smell definitely sounds concerning! You should start by unplugging the new HDD to see if your SSD gets recognized again. If it doesn't show up, something could have gotten fried—either the motherboard or part of your power supply. Also, make sure the drive wasn’t resting on anything metal before you pulled it out; that might have caused a short circuit.
