Can’t Delete a Suspicious .sys File After Installing a Crypto Miner

I downloaded several crypto miners recently to test which would work best on my PC. However, I'm having trouble deleting a specific file located at "C:Program FilesCudo Minerbinphymem.sys". Even when I try to delete it using Command Prompt as an administrator with the command 'del /f "C:Program FilesCudo Minerbinphymem.sys"', it just won't work. I'm really concerned that this might be malware, and I'm considering a factory reset for my computer if I can't get rid of it.

Make sure to run Windows Defender to check for any malware. It's crucial to protect your system before you end up in a worse situation. Good luck!

It sounds like the .sys file you're dealing with is a driver, and if it's currently running, Windows won't allow you to delete it. Try using a tool like Autoruns to stop it from loading at startup. Also, if you think it could be malware, run a scan with VirusTotal and malware tools like Malwarebytes. As a last resort, back up your important files and consider a fresh OS install for peace of mind.

I had a similar issue. What worked for me was disabling the service associated with phymem.sys and rebooting my PC. Once I did that, I could delete it without a problem.

Honestly, if you think that running a crypto miner on your computer is going to pay off, you might want to rethink that. It pretty much never does unless you have a super powerful setup or cheap electricity. Just my two cents!

Glad to hear you managed to delete the file after restarting your PC! Just be careful moving forward. If you’re worried about potential malware, doing a factory reset might be a safer option to ensure everything is clean.
