Hey all! I'm gearing up to upgrade my PC and I'm in a bit of a pickle trying to decide on components. My current setup is an MSI Tomahawk WIFI AMD B650 with a Ryzen 5 7600 CPU and an RTX 3060 Ti GPU, alongside 64GB of G.Skill DDR5 RAM. After over a decade of using a MacBook Pro with an external GPU setup, I finally built this PC last year. Prices were sky-high, so I went with some temporary components. Now that the market has cooled down, I'm looking to make a proper upgrade.
I'm contemplating whether to go for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D or the Ryzen 9 9800X3D for my CPU, and whether to pair it with an RTX 5070 Ti OC or an RTX 5080 OC for the GPU. I plan to game on a 27" 240Hz monitor, mostly playing titles like GTA 6, Fortnite, and various single-player games at 1080p and 1440p, while potentially considering 4K gaming down the line.
I've heard that the RTX 5080 works better with the 9800X3D, but I'm curious if the 7800X3D + 5070 Ti setup could be more cost-effective without sacrificing too much performance. Any thoughts or experiences you can share would be super helpful!

Consider pairing the 7800X3D with the 5080 for a balanced build. It’s rumored that they work well together for gaming, and the future-proofing aspect is always nice to have!
I personally went with the 9800X3D and the 5080, but if you’re looking for value, the combination of 7800X3D with 5070 Ti is probably the way to go. It offers around 15% less performance but potentially saves you some cash. For most games, it should still hold up nicely!
Exactly! If you're mostly gaming, saving some bucks and getting the 7800X3D + 5070 Ti seems like a smart move without a huge hit to performance.
The 9800X3D + RTX 5080 is definitely a high-end choice for gaming at 4K, but if you want solid performance at 1440p, the 7800X3D + 5070 Ti handles everything smoothly; I average about 120-150 FPS at ultra settings. Even for single-player games, the drop is hardly noticeable. You could go for 4K with lower settings and still have a great experience!
That's impressive! I’m a fan of maintaining high FPS too. Sounds like the 7800X3D + 5070 Ti is a strong contender if you're not stuck on 4K.
If you want to fully utilize a 240Hz monitor, the 9800X3D with the 5080 is likely your best bet. The 7800X3D might struggle to keep up at that refresh rate for demanding AAA games, especially if you're looking to hit those high FPS numbers. Just my two cents!
Good point! I'm considering my gaming needs and maybe the 9800X3D + 5080 is the way to go for that future-proofing.

Interesting! But would I really see a performance boost compared to the 9800X3D? Just trying to weigh my options here.
