I'm thinking about moving from Pop!_OS 24.04 to openSUSE Tumbleweed for my gaming setup. My current system has an AMD 9800X3D, a 9070XT, 64GB DDR5 RAM, and a 4TB P600 CORE NVMe drive. While I've been enjoying various apps and games, Pop!_OS feels quite heavy, and I often see idle RAM usage around 8-9GB. I'm looking for a lighter alternative that still offers a rolling release with good compatibility for software and games. Since I'm considering a clean install of openSUSE, should I format my existing partitions and install directly from the image on their website? Any guidance or resources from those who have made a similar transition would be greatly appreciated!

When I switched from Kubuntu to openSUSE Tumbleweed, I found the installer super user-friendly. It’s mostly GUI-based, so you can click through without too much hassle. A tip I’d give is to wipe your entire drive during the installation, enable the option for hibernating your system if secure boot is off, and make sure to select GRUB 2 EFI if you plan to dual boot. Also, don’t forget to choose your desktop environment—KDE, Gnome, or XFCE—whichever fits your needs! Overall, it’s quite straightforward, and you’ll be set up in no time!

I love the customization options that KDE Plasma offers! I don’t plan to use secure boot or dual booting either, so your tips really help. Thanks for the heads up!
