Considering a Switch to Linux as a Mac User: Need Advice

Hi all! With Apple products getting more expensive, I've been thinking ahead in case anything happens to my M1 MacBook. I primarily use my Mac for basic tasks like paperwork for my small business, but I'm considering transitioning to a more affordable laptop running Linux when the time comes. I want to start by experimenting with an external SSD and regular distros like Ubuntu, Mint, or Fedora, without altering anything on my Mac. Is this a feasible plan? And if I really enjoy it, can I transfer the SSD content to a new laptop down the line? Looking forward to your insights!

Yes, you can definitely run Linux from an external SSD without messing with your Mac! It might be worth starting to get used to it now rather than waiting until you're really in a bind. Plus, it could save you some hassle down the road! Just remember, experimenting can be a learning experience, and you don't have to be locked into one system.

That makes sense! I'm just trying to keep my files safe while exploring options. Thanks for the reassurance!
