I'm gearing up for an interview for a Data Center Technician role with AWS. They provided tons of prep materials after a recruiter reached out to me, and I'm curious if this job is a good move for my career. Currently, I work in IT support and hold a CCNA and a Master's in Cybersecurity, plus I'm studying for the AZ-900 certification. I'm wondering about the growth opportunities at AWS, the overall benefits, and what other roles I might be able to transition into. The salary isn't significantly different from my current job. What are the pros and cons of this role?

Starting as a Data Center Technician at AWS can be a fantastic entry point. Many people, myself included, have leveraged this role to advance within the company. If you're near the ORD area, there are plenty of opportunities waiting, and even some in SBN if you're willing to move a bit!
If the pay isn't much higher, I'd consider moving only if there are clear paths to advance in the future. You could potentially transition into infrastructure or cloud ops later, but jobs can be tough to come by right now. Just a heads up, datacenter work can get a bit repetitive compared to your existing IT support role, but having AWS on your resume might really help you down the line.

Totally get that! I’ve been in IT support for a while too, so I understand the ups and downs. Just remember, the AWS name carries weight in the industry, and it could really open doors for you later!
