Considering an Upgrade for My i7 10700KF Setup

I built my PC a couple of years ago and back then, I didn't know much about components. Recently, I upgraded to an 8GB 5060 graphics card, but I'm facing issues when using PCIe 3.0. My system keeps restarting and loses video output, forcing me to stick with PCIe 2.0. I'm thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade my motherboard and CPU. My budget is limited, but I'm aiming for something decent that supports DDR4 RAM. Any suggestions?

It sounds like the problem might be with your power supply rather than your GPU. If you switched to a high-quality 850W Gold PSU and the issue persists, it could very well be the motherboard at fault. Downgrading to PCIe 2.0 isn’t ideal, so checking the board could save you a lot of hassle.

Do you know the exact model of your motherboard? Sometimes, issues can stem from BIOS settings. You might want to reset to optimized defaults or update to the latest BIOS version. The 10700 still holds up well for gaming, so it’s worth fixing instead of rushing into a full upgrade.

I’ve seen people run into similar problems with the 5060 series GPUs and PCIe 3.0. It might be a compatibility issue. If you can get a budget-friendly motherboard, that could solve your problem. Honestly, I’m using an i7 10700 with a 5070 and it performs great! If you're looking to upgrade, Newegg has bundles with the i5 12600KF and DDR4 boards for $360-$380, which could give you a nice boost.

Your 10700KF is indeed stuck at PCIe gen 3. If you’re having to drop to PCIe gen 2, it’s often a sign of motherboard failure. As for upgrades, considering the i5 12600KF with a B760 DDR4 board for around $300 is a solid move. It offers PCIE gen 4 support and you can still use your DDR4 RAM, which will enhance your gaming experience.
