Considering an Upgrade: What to Replace for a New GPU?

I'm looking to upgrade my custom-built PC, which I bought pre-assembled. My current setup includes a Gainward GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X processor, 32GB of Kingston Fury RAM, an MSI A520M motherboard, a 1TB Kingston NV2 NVMe SSD, a Noctua CPU cooler, a 650W FSP Hyper power supply, and a Shark Malstrom Flow RGB case. I want to switch to a Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU, but I'm unsure what else I need to upgrade. I suspect I might need a new power supply and possibly a new CPU, but I'm not sure if anything else is necessary. Any recommendations?

Upgrading to the Radeon RX 9070 XT definitely means you should consider getting a better PSU, as the power requirements will be higher. If you're gaming at 1440p, you might want to invest in a better CPU cooler too, since the new GPU could generate more heat. Your CPU is generally fine unless you're experiencing bottlenecks, but if you find a good deal on a higher-end AM4, it could be worth considering.

Definitely keep that in mind. If you're planning on maxing out settings, a better cooler would definitely help keep temps down!

Also, check if your motherboard can support the new GPU's requirements before making the upgrade.

I think your motherboard should handle the upgrade, but make sure it has the right PCIe slot for the RX 9070 XT. Upgrading the PSU is a good call, especially if you're looking at higher wattage for stability. Your CPU should be fine unless you're aiming for extreme performance, but that can always be upgraded later if needed.

Good to know! I’ll check the motherboard specs ahead of time.

Yeah, if you're staying around 1080p or even 1440p without heavy multitasking, you might not need a new CPU just yet.
