Could My Cooler Be Causing Overheating Issues?

I'm experiencing overheating issues with my CPU, which fluctuates between 70°C and 100°C during gaming. It happens even when the CPU usage is at around 30%, causing frequent throttling. I've replaced the thermal paste with Thermal Grizzly and have done this before, so I'm confident in my application. The cooler mounts securely with twist pins, but I'm wondering if there's a deeper issue with my CPU or cooler since it's an older 8th gen i7. I also have a Noctua cooler, but I lost the mounting brackets and need to buy new ones. Would switching to that cooler potentially solve my overheating problems?

Definitely confirm which cooler you're using. If it's the Arctic Alpine 12, then you might be facing issues due to its mounting system. You can contact Noctua for replacement parts since you paid a premium for their cooler. The cooler's design is crucial for consistent thermal performance, so an upgrade could really help.

Good idea! Just make sure the cooler is securely pressed against the CPU; otherwise, the heat might not be dissipating properly.

It sounds like you might be dealing with a stock Intel cooler, which tends to underperform and can break easily. If that's the case, switching to the Noctua cooler could help a lot. Additionally, check the cost of the mounting brackets; sometimes, it might be more worth it to buy a new cooler altogether like the Thermalright Assassin X120, which is quite affordable.

Yeah, the Arctic Alpine 12 isn't the best for maintaining pressure on the CPU. Those plastic pins can wear out and lead to poor contact, which sounds like what you might be experiencing.
