Hey everyone, I've been using Buildkite for some personal projects after my previous employer used it, and I really liked it. They used to offer a free developer plan that let you run about 3 pipelines, but when I checked in recently, I noticed it prompted me to pay for a plan. It looks like they might have moved to just a pro plan for $30 a month and an enterprise plan. Does anyone know what's up with this?

Yeah, I noticed that they haven’t shut down existing developer accounts yet, but I was also disappointed to see them moving away from the free tier. I agree it was nice to have a limited free account for testing. I reached out to their support a couple of months ago, and they confirmed they’re phasing out the free plan, although they’re still supporting open source projects. Unfortunately, that might not help with personal projects though.
They’re definitely going through some changes. The original CEO left, and things are a bit uncertain. I still believe it’s one of the best tools out there, and I’m okay with paying the $30 for what I get. I think they might eventually consider bringing back some sort of free tier, but probably without hosted agents because of the misuse. Those hosted agents are awesome for creating Docker images and caching, plus their pricing doesn’t compare to others I’ve tried.
I still have the developer plan and haven't seen any notifications about changes. You might want to reach out to their support to get clarity.
Thanks! I’ll definitely give them a shout. Paying $30 a month is tough for personal projects.
True, it seems like the rise of cryptominers messed it up for everyone trying to learn and experiment.
