I accidentally caused a short on my ASUS laptop's motherboard while changing the SSD without disconnecting the battery. Additionally, I dropped a screw inside the case, which I suspect might have caused further issues since the laptop wouldn't power on until I connected the power adapter. Now, everything appears to be functioning, but I'm worried I might have damaged something permanently or that the battery could explode. What should I do to ensure everything is safe?

If you've removed the screw and the laptop is working properly now, I wouldn't stress too much. It sounds like the battery or charge controller went into protective mode, which is common when there's a short. Just keep an eye on it, and if everything is charging and running smoothly, it should be fine.
Thanks for the reassurance! I did get the screw out, and now it doesn’t need the adapter to power on. Do you think I should still check anything else?
