Did I Make Smart Choices for My New Video Editing Rig?

Hey everyone! I just invested in a new computer build for heavy video editing using DaVinci Resolve, specifically working with 4K proxies, as well as some gaming. Since the prices for RAM and SSDs are crazy right now (January 2026), I tried to save money by looking for warehouse deals and buying an OEM CPU. I know RAM prices are steep, but I went for 6000MHz CL30 to maximize Ryzen performance. Here's the breakdown of my purchase, listed in Euros since I'm in Germany:

- **GPU:** MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X – **€796.99** (got it on sale)
- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 7 9700X (OEM Tray) – **€265.00**
- **RAM:** 32GB Patriot Viper Venom DDR5-6000 CL30 – **€408.99** (ouch...)
- **Mobo:** Gigabyte B850 Gaming X WiFi6E – **€184.90**
- **SSD:** 1TB Acer Predator GM7 – **€126.00**
- **PSU:** Corsair RM850e (ATX 3.1, found a good deal) – **€93.96**
- **Case:** Fractal Design North (discounted) – **€123.60**
- **Cooler:** Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB – **€36.20**

**Total Cost:** ~ **€2,035**

I know I overpaid significantly for RAM and SSD due to the current market, but I managed to get the GPU for less than €800 and saved on the case, PSU, and CPU. How does this build hold up? Is it still a good value given the lousy market conditions? Thanks for any feedback!

Your build looks solid for gaming! However, for video editing, there are a few choices that might raise some eyebrows. You really don't need 6000MHz CL30 RAM for AM5 unless you're going for top-tier performance. With how prices are currently, that premium isn't really necessary anymore. Also, keep an eye on your SSD choice—it might be limiting if you're working with larger files down the line. You might want to expand that in the future once prices drop.

What alternatives would you suggest for an SSD? I'm hoping to do most of my editing with smaller proxy files for now, so I thought I was safe with the 1TB.

For now, sticking with a 1TB SSD is fine for your proxy workflow. Just make sure you have a plan to upgrade later when prices become more reasonable!

I totally feel you on the RAM pricing struggle—it’s insane right now! That CL30 6000MHz RAM is good for maxing out Ryzen performance. Just make sure to check market trends for NVMe drives; prices could vary soon! Also, be cautious with those OEM CPUs; they can be a bit of a gamble.
