Did I Mess Up My Mac with Python?

Hey everyone! So, I downloaded Python from python.org on my new Mac and tried to use ChatGPT to write some automation scripts for scraping info from a website. I've never coded before, and after running into a bunch of issues, I decided programming just isn't for me. I deleted a lot of the files, but now I'm hearing that this could be an irreversible mistake. I still have the Python launcher in the trash and a few files left in the packages. I'm a bit worried and might even consider exchanging the Mac since it's new, but I really want to know if I can restore it to its original state. What should I do?

You shouldn't have to get a new Mac just because of some files! If you can't delete something, it's probably in use by your Python script. Just find Apple's support page on resetting macOS and follow those instructions. Also, be cautious when using scripts from chatbots; it’s easy to mess things up if you don’t fully understand them!

Thanks for the reassurance! I was just reading some horror stories online.

Honestly, I think you're stressing over nothing. As long as your Mac is still running fine, there's no need for a replacement. If you're worried about files, just do a factory reset. It's super simple, just Google 'factory reset MacBook.' If everything's working, just chill out!

How do I go about deleting everything though? I'm just really unsure right now.

I totally get that! I just dropped a lot of cash on this Mac and don’t want to mess it up.

Using ChatGPT to create automations isn't a bad idea at all! Messing things up is how we learn. Just be careful next time and maybe use a virtual machine to test things out without risking your setup.

Thanks! I’ll definitely practice with virtual setups moving forward.

If you want a clean-up, consider downloading an app like CleanMyMacX from the App Store. It’s reliable for cleaning out junk files and optimizing performance.

Your panic is more concerning than the Python issues you might have. It’s normal to have hiccups when trying something new. Just reset your Mac if you're feeling overwhelmed. Better to make mistakes on your own device!
