I'm putting together a new gaming PC and used PC Part Picker to create a compatible list of components. My goal is to stream low-quality console games while also enjoying games with extensive modding options like Fallout and Skyrim, along with other favorites such as Elden Ring and Assassin's Creed. I'm aiming for a mid- to upper-mid tier setup that will allow for upgrades in the future, especially with upcoming games like Elder Scrolls VI on the horizon. Here's the list of parts I've chosen:
- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor ($375.98)
- **CPU Cooler:** Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black 55 CFM CPU Cooler ($99.95)
- **Motherboard:** Asus ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard ($168.99)
- **Memory:** G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory ($299.99)
- **Storage:** Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 5.0 X2 NVME Solid State Drive ($168.95)
- **Video Card:** XFX Speedster SWFT 210 Core Radeon RX 7800 XT 16 GB Video Card ($529.99)
- **Case:** Corsair iCUE 4000X RGB ATX Mid Tower Case ($86.99)
- **Power Supply:** Corsair RM850x SHIFT 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular Side Interface ATX Power Supply ($134.99)
The total cost comes to around $1865.83. My question is: did I go overboard on quality parts, or can I save some money without sacrificing performance? Any thoughts on whether I should swap any components would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Congrats on your new build! It might be worth checking retailers like Best Buy for potential deals on components. Sometimes you can snag some serious savings there. Your motherboard choice is a bit on the pricey side; the B850-E from Asus could give you better longevity and features without breaking the bank. Just a heads up, I wouldn't recommend ASrock boards though.
If you consider buying from Newegg, they sometimes offer cool deals like a free AIO cooler if you buy the 7800X3D. You could use those savings to upgrade to a 9070 XT. Just make sure your delivery experience is better than mine; I got a shattered package last time, but that was probably my area’s fault for bad handling.
You might want to opt for a more budget-friendly CPU cooler like the Thermalright Phantom Spirit and use the extra cash towards a different GPU, maybe the RX 9070 XT. It's also worth considering that there are solid 850W power supplies for under $100, so you could save there too. The SHIFT model you picked is good, but the cabling on the side might not justify the extra cost.
Good tip! There are some decent 850W options around that price point, like the MSI A850GL or the Montech Century II. Just be aware that the SHIFT version might be costing you more than it should for what you really need.
Also, if you’re near a Micro Center, they have great combo deals. I got a 7800X3D with a B650 board for $400!
I built almost the same rig and spent just a tad less overall. I went for the Micro Center bundle that included a 9800X3D and paired it with the same RAM you’ve listed. RAM prices are crazy right now, but I got a fantastic deal, and their Phantom Spirit cooler and a 9070 XT cost me around the same amount you're spending. Definitely check if there's a Micro Center nearby, it’s worth the trip!
There’s a Micro Center about 50 minutes from me. Totally worth the drive!

That sounds promising! I had a rough start with Newegg too, but maybe I’ll give them another shot if the Micro Center plan falls through.
