I'm curious about the real differences between budget, midrange, and premium motherboards. I'm considering an X870 AMD motherboard for my setup, which includes a Ryzen 5 9600X and an RX 9070 (non-XT). Will using an X870 motherboard provide any significant advantages over B650, B840, or B850 motherboards? Specifically, if I decide to upgrade my CPU and GPU in the future, can a budget motherboard handle it without failing?

I've shared a couple of videos that break down the differences in chipsets. Choosing the right motherboard really comes down to your intended use—like needing a lot of M.2 slots for storage or USB4 support. Make sure to consider what features you need for your specific builds.
The main differences between motherboard tiers really come down to features, quality, and overclocking capabilities. Higher-end boards tend to offer more fan and RGB headers, additional M.2 slots, and often have better built-in Wi-Fi. If you're not planning to overclock or need extra features, a budget board might work fine for you. But if you want to utilize more storage in the future, it might be worth the investment.
Exactly, it's all about what you really need!
The differences are mostly marginal as long as the board has decent driver support and meets your needs. Just ensure it has the features you find essential—the rest is usually just icing on the cake!
The chipset itself doesn’t really impact CPU performance. It's mainly about how the board connects everything and manages the power delivered to your CPU. The VRMs (Voltage Regulator Modules) are key for stable performance, but since you're using a low-power CPU, any basic board should suffice without noticeable issues.
Also, if you're on a budget with the 9600X, you might want to consider the 7500F instead. There are real differences in chipsets, but your current CPU specs don't require the highest-end VRMs to get the best performance.
I appreciate the suggestion, but that's not really what I was asking. Thanks though!
With your setup, the 9600X (65W) and RX 9070 (220W) will perform almost the same across any of those boards—there won't be a noticeable FPS difference. I'd recommend skipping the B840 and going with either the B650 or B850. The B850 is great for future-proofing with USB4 and PCIe 5.0, while the X870 is overkill unless you plan on going very high-end in the future. And don’t worry, a budget board won't brick with a bigger CPU; it'll just throttle if it can't manage heat.

Thanks for clarifying that! Good to know I might not need all those extras.
