I'm in the process of upgrading from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and I'm trying to figure out if my current stock cooler, the AMD Wraith Stealth, is sufficient for the new CPU. Will I need to invest in a new cooler to keep temperatures in check? Thanks for any advice!

The Wraith Stealth is going to struggle a lot with the 9800X3D. That chip runs quite a bit hotter than your old 3600, and you'll likely experience thermal throttling during heavy use. I'd recommend getting something like a Hyper 212 or a stronger cooler to ensure it runs properly.

If you're mainly gaming, the Wraith Stealth might just manage, but it's definitely not ideal. You can grab a decent Thermalright tower cooler for around $16 that would work much better if you want to keep your CPU cool and running smoothly.

No way, the Wraith Stealth isn't up to the task. While you can't actually damage the 9800X3D with it, performance will be disappointing, especially under load.

Yes, you definitely need a new cooler for the 9800X3D. Just a heads up, you'll also need to upgrade your motherboard and memory to fully support the new CPU.

You really should consider a new cooler. The Wraith Stealth just isn't going to cut it with the 9800X3D.
