Do I need a new power supply for my MSI 5070 ti installation?

Hey folks, I'm in the process of installing an MSI 5070 ti graphics card and I've run into a bit of a dilemma. I have a Corsair RM850e power supply, which is from before 2025, but I'm only able to use 2 available PCIe cable slots for the adapter instead of the recommended 3 individual PCIe cables. Will this setup require me to buy a new power supply? I appreciate any insights you can offer!

If you don’t have a proper 12-volt cable already, I’d recommend buying a new power supply. But some might say you could manage without it if you're willing to experiment a bit.

Did your power supply come with a 12VHPWR or a 12v-2x6 cable? Sometimes these are labeled as 600W. You might already have what you need without additional purchases.

If you're using the 2023 version of the RM850e, it likely has a 2 x 8 pin cable that connects to your PSU for the 12V-2x6 (12+4) pin for your GPU. In that case, you might not need the extra adapter cable.

Why not just reach out to Corsair and ask them for the 12v2x6 cable? They might provide it or suggest what you can do.
