Hey everyone! I'm currently dealing with a frustrating internet issue at home. My roommates are getting a solid 500mbps from the modem, while I'm stuck with just 2-20mbps depending on where I am in my room. To fix this, I got myself a router and a PoE switch that I've mounted in the hallway. I connected the modem to the PoE switch, which then connects to my router set as an access point. However, I didn't realize that while the PoE switch accepts power over Ethernet, my modem needs to support PoE out to send power as well. I could simply plug the switch into a power outlet, but the nearest one is on the opposite wall, and I don't want wires all over the floor. I've heard that using an extension cord can be dangerous too. So, I'm wondering if a PoE injector would help make my modem able to send power to the PoE switch over Ethernet? Thanks a bunch!

Nope, that's not how PoE works! You’ve got the wrong setup for what you’re trying to achieve. A PoE switch acts like a regular switch, but it also powers devices that connect to it, like a PoE camera. If you want to use a PoE injector, remember it connects to a standard outlet and sends power to the device connected to it, not the other way around. Since you're looking for better performance, you might want to consider a mesh wireless router system instead, which could help improve your connectivity.
I think I get what you're saying better now. You're more concerned about getting power to the switch, not the AP. But unfortunately, just a PoE injector won't solve it if your modem doesn't support PoE out.
