Do I Need More RAM for My Student Workload with All These Open Tabs?

Hey everyone! I'm a student and tend to have a ton of tabs open while studying or procrastinating—about 40 tabs on Chrome! I'm also running things like NordVPN and games like Roblox. My computer shows that I'm using 79% of my memory, which is around 12.7 GB out of 16 GB total RAM. I noticed some annoying stuttering while gaming, and I'm not sure if I need to upgrade my RAM or look into other issues. My CPU (a Ryzen 5 5500) is only at 26-32% usage, so I think that's okay. Also, we recently switched to new WiFi, which might be related to the stuttering. I'm not very tech-savvy when it comes to upgrades, so any advice would be super helpful!

You know, rather than just buying more RAM, you might want to try closing some of those tabs first. Also, consider cleaning up your SSD and getting rid of unnecessary files—sometimes a bloated system can slow things down a lot. If you do upgrade, make sure to match the RAM you already have or replace it entirely for a boost!

If the stuttering started after you got the new WiFi, that could be the root of your issue. Upgrading RAM isn’t necessary unless you're hitting your limits. You could consider adding more RAM if you're consistently maxing out, but also double-check your connection if you're having problems in online games.

Honestly, if you're mainly playing Roblox, your current CPU and RAM should be fine. But with all those tabs open, going for 32GB of RAM could definitely help with performance. Just keep in mind that Chrome can be a memory hog!

As we mentioned, if you’re determined to keep all those tabs open, getting some extensions can really help. They allow you to save and close tabs for later use. I often save YouTube tabs instead of keeping them all pinned!

Sure, 32GB of RAM might help, but honestly, you might just need to get better at managing those tabs! Chrome really eats up RAM. Try switching to a different browser or using extensions that let you save tabs for later to keep your current workflow smoother.

Having tons of tabs does up your RAM usage, but that alone likely isn't causing the stuttering. Usage spikes can happen, but if your system's only at 80% during peak loads, you're doing fine. Check if your FPS drops during gaming, and look into your GPU usage and temperatures to see if anything seems off.
