I'm new to Linux and recently installed Fedora, which I chose for its combination of user-friendliness and some level of hands-on tinkering. However, I've had my share of issues and am considering whether I should have gone with a more straightforward distro like Mint. I've heard Mint doesn't update often, but I'm worried if that means I'll struggle with newer games since I have a 9070 XT and 7800X3D. Is it really important to have the latest Mesa or kernel for playing newer titles, or will my hardware perform fine as long as it's supported?

The latest Mesa and kernel do matter, especially for performance improvements and bug fixes, though it’s not as critical as on Windows. Mint can be slower with updates; it sometimes has packages that are years old! If you're focused on gaming, I wouldn't stick with Mint for that reason. I recommend trying something like Universal Blue if you want a more stable yet updated experience for gaming. Fedora is a decent choice too, and it’s often updated quite frequently.

I've heard good things about Fedora being stable yet up-to-date! I just want to make sure I'm not missing out on performance boosts that come with newer drivers.
