Do I Need to Link My GitHub When Applying for Internships?

Hey everyone! I'm currently in my second year at university, majoring in maths and computer science while minoring in physics. I'm planning to apply for a few internships abroad in Austria for my exchange next year. The thing is, I don't really have a GitHub account at the moment—it's pretty much empty. Is it absolutely necessary to include a link to my GitHub in my email applications, or are my CV and LinkedIn profile enough for starters? Thanks for any advice!

Linking your GitHub isn’t a must, especially if it’s empty. I’d recommend putting more effort into creating a solid CV first. Maybe consider working on a small project and deploying it later to showcase some practical experience, which can really impress recruiters.

As someone who checks GitHub regularly, I think it's great to see what people are working on. Even if it’s just some basic projects, it shows passion and initiative. If you struggle to find interesting projects, maybe rethink whether this field is the right fit for you. In the competitive job market here in the UK, standing out is essential. Just my two cents—having a couple of personal projects can really help!

I'm a hiring manager and I always take a look at GitHub profiles. If you can build a few projects and document them well, definitely link it! A good README makes it easier for people to grasp what you've done quickly, just like your resume.
