Hey everyone! I just got an MSI Pro B850-P motherboard that has two 8-pin CPU power connectors, which is new for me. My CPU is the 9800X3D, and I'm wondering if I need to connect both power connectors. I know the CPU consumes about 120W, and one 8-pin connector can supply up to 150W, so I'm curious if using both would be excessive and could cause harm. Thanks for the help!

You don't want to mix things up here! Connecting a PCIe cable to the CPU power could actually damage your system. Just connect one 8-pin EPS power cable to the motherboard, and that should work perfectly fine. If you're not overclocking heavily, that's all you need!
As long as you use the correct cable, you're good! Just remember to stick with EPS for the CPU.
Best bet is to check the manual for your motherboard. It usually indicates whether you need both connectors plugged in or if just one will do. Some boards only need one, but it might specify which one to use. Oh, and remember, these are EPS connectors, not PCIe; they’re not interchangeable, so don’t mix them up!
My PSU has both labels on the connectors though; can I use the same cable from PCIe?
Definitely read the manual first! It’s super important.
I saw my PSU has hybrid cables marked PCIe/CPU; should I be worried about that?
